WHAT ARE ESSENTIAL OILS?
Essential oils are natural aromatic compounds found in the seeds, flowers, bark, rind, and leaves of plants, extracted and distilled for health benefits! They are extremely potent – 50-70 times more powerful than herbs. In fact, ONE drop of certified pure peppermint essential oil is the equivalent to 28 cups of peppermint tea! They are potent so it is imperative to have the top quality essential oil.
Essential oils work to restore balance at a cellular level, naturally. Essential oils are soluble with the lipids in the cell membrane, allowing them to go through the cellular wall. The human body has the innate ability to heal itself, essential oils help to support that process -- without the many side effects that are common to synthetic medications.
We have moved so far beyond the stigma of essential oils just being those 'hippie' smelly elixirs. What these oils are doing on a scientific level is unignorable now. Results are being published in mainstream journals, partnerships are being formed with universities, hospitals, doctors and specialist centers. Presently over-reliance on medications are wreaking havoc and complications with prescribed medications are on the rise. The work that doTERRA is doing on a global scale is helping wake up people. I am proud to join them on their mission.
QUALITY MATTERS!
Always choose essential oils that are certified pure by 3rd party testers, sourced from their natural habitat around the world to ensure the proper chemical constituents and structure so that the essential oils work at the optimal level, and they are verified pure, free of fillers, pesticides, and foreign contaminants. There are many companies who do their own testing and have claims on their bottles that they are 100% pure, but then have warnings on the bottle to not even apply topically. This should be a big red flag. The oils we use are safe and pure enough to be taken internally, they even have FDA compliant nutrition facts on the label.
I’d love to save you the time, money, and possible toxicity of purchasing essential oils that claim to be something they are not. The oils we were initially introduced to, before we knew better, went to the wayside since they didn’t work and I even had major adverse reactions. There is no regulation on the essential oil industry -- we must be wise with what we buy to put on & in our bodies.
Ways to use oils aromatically:
- Put a few drops in a diffuser. Most diffusers at doTERRA use water and are effective at dispersing the oil into the air in a fine mist.
- Place a drop in diffuser jewelry. You can make your own jewelry using lava beads, air drying clay, or terra-cotta clay.
- Add a few drops to your palms, rub together, and cup your hands over your nose. Inhale deeply.
-
Apply oil to a cotton ball and place in the air vents of your vehicle
-
Mix oils in a spray bottle with water and mist over furniture, carpet, or linens
-
Add oil to a batch of laundry or to wool dryer balls
-
Use in household surface cleaners
Topically | There are also many advantages to applying essential oils directly on your skin. Some oils can help with minor skin irritations, blemishes, and more. Essential oils can be diluted for topical use to prevent any possible irritation, and especially strong oils such as Cinnamon Bark, Oregano, or Black Pepper should always be diluted. Diluting essential oils reduces the concentration, but increases the absorption rate of the oil into the skin.
Ways to use oils topically:
- Oils can also be used in traditional massage, diluted in Fractionated Coconut Oil, or by Hand & Body Lotion.
- Apply directly to pulse points, or the bottoms of your feet.
- Place on the specific area of your body that is needing concentrated support (i.e. neck and temples for head tension or muscles for extra support.)
-
Add a few drops of oil to a warm bath
-
Make a hot or cold compress by soaking a towel or cloth in water, adding essential oils, and then applying to the desired area
Internally | When used with caution, the internal use of essential oils is the perfect answer to address targeted areas of need, such as when the immune or the digestive systems need support.*
Any of our bottles that have a “supplement” label on it can be taken internally while bottles that just say “ingredients” should only be used topically or aromatically.
I only recommend the ingestion of dōTERRA oils as each bottle is 100% pure essential oil. Please do not transfer this information to any other brand as the quality of essential oil is unknown.
Ways to use oils internally:
- In a veggie capsule. Put no more than the recommended daily amounts in a veggie capsule specifically for targeted purposes.
